The Catholic Church Preservation Society will help any parishioner of a soon to be closed, or already closed church, or anyone who would like to see a Roman Catholic church in one of these conditions remain an open Roman Catholic Church, available for the celebration of the sacraments on at least an occasional basis. We will get involved at any stage of the church/parish closure process, however it is important to keep in mind that if a church has already been sold, there is nothing at all we can do to help reopen it. We will explain what will be required of you should you wish to take on the task of caring for a Roman Catholic church in order to insure its future survival, including what will be expected of you and the members of your group. We will direct you toward the resources you will need to establish a non-profit corporation at the state level, and then your filing for tax exempt status with the IRS, in order that all of the donations you will collect to preserve your church can be written off by the donors for tax purposes. We will also give you ideas for fund raising, including informing the broader community and even those who have moved away from your church of your mission, and why it is so important. Once your group is active, we will offer you the opportunity to link a website to our “list of preserved churches” page, in order that your efforts can get increased visibility, and potentially attract even more support.
